Türkiye and the New World: Ambiguities and Aspirations in An Emerging Multipolar International System
Abstract
This paper examines the complexities and ambiguities of Türkiye’s position in the Russo-Ukrainian War through a neorealist perspective. It argues that Türkiye’s behavior reflects revisionist ambitions and an effort to expand its role within an emerging neo-multipolar order. By situating Turkish foreign policy within shifting global power structures, the paper shows how Ankara maintains competing partnerships while using the war and its disruptions as opportunities to maximize power, strategic autonomy, and regional influence more broadly.
