Educational Resilience Against Online Violent Extremist Propaganda: Insights from a Systematic Review
Abstract
The expansion of digital technologies has enabled violent extremists to disseminate propaganda with unprecedented reach. Drawing on a systematic review of educational interventions addressing online extremist propaganda, this paper examines media literacy, inoculation and prebunking, community-based approaches, and digital tools. Findings suggest that interactive and inoculation-based interventions can strengthen propaganda detection and resilience, although effects are often inconsistent and short-lived. Prevention therefore requires integrated strategies combining digital literacy, emotional resilience, community engagement, and identity-supportive education.
