Beyond the American Anthropological Association: The Antizionism Virus Spreading Across Anthropology and Inverting Archaeology
Abstract
This paper examines the implications of the American Anthropological Association’s boycott of Israeli higher education for anthropology’s subfield of archaeology. Archaeology has sought to be an inclusive field, attempting to locate the common human experience in the past for all people, but a social media movement is inverting those goals of archaeology. The paper documents an increasingly hostile campaign against professional archaeological organizations for including Israelis and Israel.
